This weekend I did some exploring in downtown Raleigh and came across artist Morgan Cook, who was in the process of painting this “E” mural in a galaxy background.
Cook, a native North Carolinian from Chapel Hill, recently returned from a stint in Los Angeles. Now firmly planted in Raleigh, he has set upon a community art project to beautify the city, which he calls #TheAlphabetProjectNC.
“E” for East Cabarrus Street? Yes. This year-long project will feature all 26 letters of the alphabet in 26 different locations of Raleigh. He has done letters A-E so far and that’s just 2 months into the new year. He expects to finish the rest of the alphabet by end of 2020.
Check out his Instagram (@artofmck), for more glimpses of his art and hints of where the other letter murals are sprinkled around the city.
If you’d like to support his project by contributing money towards spray-paint you can do that here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/the-alphabet-project?utm_source=customer&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_campaign=p_cf+share-flow-1
And if you own a building/wall and are interested in getting a letter mural added, or know of someone who does, reach out directly: Artofmck@gmail.com
The art work is done for free as a way of giving back to the community.
Things to come: Scavenger hunt around the city & around the murals. This “E” mural is at the corner of E. Cabarrus St. & S. Blount St. On the side of Lincoln Theatre. The OTHER side of the Lincoln in a Lincoln mural. Lol!
Sometimes it’s hard to appreciate just how labor-intensive murals are. But you can check out a couple brief videos I took on this day at my Instagram (@megherethere).
