MEG HERE AND THERE

Reuben’s NY Deli opens in downtown Raleigh

I hit up Reuben’s NY Deli for lunch, the new place that recently opened up downtown. It’s next to Oak City Meatball Shoppe, and across the street from Sir Walter Coffee.

I get giddy when anything New York-ish pops up around here. Makes me a tad homesick, but at the same time, content & excited that some NY flavahhh has landed here in NC.

Really enjoyed this sandwich (called Big Shot), that meat was excellent! And sooooo much of it! The bread was nicely toasted but too much butter for my liking and I love butter, but just too much for me. Next time I’ll ask them to put the meat on dry toast instead. The sandwhich comes with really yummy chips which are extra crispy, & a tasty pickle.

Matzo ball soup was good too. Didn’t love the latkes unfortunately. Ohhh and I really wanted to. Reuben’s NY Deli make them really thin and small and season them with something that just didn’t do it for me. Oh well. Guess there’s all kinds of varieties. I’m sure some folks out there will like it just this way. And points to Reuben’s for serving the latkes with apple sauce AND sour cream as the accompanying condiments. Mazel Tov!!

The dining room is small but good use has been made of the space. Besides the mostly 2-seater tables & chairs, there is also a short bar seating area facing the kitchen, and also a short bar facing the window looking out onto the street.

There is additional seating on the outdoor patio, which is a great alternative. Most people though seemed to be walking over from nearby businesses and ordering sandwhiches to-go. Since Red Hat is in the same building, I’m guessing a lot of people from there ventured on down. The place did start to fill up quickly at peak lunch time.

I will definitely be back for the sandwiches and soups. They have a tomato bisque on the menu and that’s one of my fave soups, so gotta try that. I also want to head bsck there again to try their blintzes and bagels with schmears. Blintzezzz.... we used to eat those quite often growing up. Is tomorrow too soon to go back? ;)

I love that a car with NY plates is parked across the street from Reuben’s NY Deli. Haha!
