MEG HERE AND THERE

Excursion Day in Siler City, NC

A couple of weeks ago I trekked out to Siler City, NC for the day. It’s hardly a long drive, about an hour, (40 miles). Most of my trekking was on foot once I arrived. That was the goal, to explore downtown Siler City bit by bit, and of course capture some photos along the way.

What better way to start my exploring than by checking out an eatery. I arrived at Artisan Hub for lunch. I opted for the hot Cubano sandwich with a delicious sauce (salsa verde), and side of smash-fried plantains (tostones). Oh, and I also went with an extra side of cauliflower that was prepared in a sweet & slightly kickin' sauce.

I couldn’t finish the last 2 smash-fried plantains so I took them with me to snack on later. Im glad I did because I walked around a few more hours and eventually got hungry.

The Artisan Hub is small and old-fashioned looking, just what you’d expect in a small old-fashioned town. The service was warm & friendly. I got a kick out of the wall-art hanging in my booth. It was a “repurposed” or is that “upcycled”, bicycle tire with a picture of a wood planks in the center where the spokes would be. Pretty cool art, by Travis Cohn of Reptire Designs.

This little case of goodies for sale is right by the register at counter. Some great NC flavors here including Chef Vivian Howard's Blueberry BBQ sauce.

This Coca-Cola mural is in the alley right outside of Artisan Hub.

Strolled through the alley and sometimes it's not the pretty things that catch my eye but the interesting things.

The building next door has a barber shop in it. It was closed so all I could do was look though the window and it was like a movie set. I mean, it's the year 2018 and the look of this baber shop with the old-timey chairs and tube-TV set with the giant antane on top....

Here I captured the cash register on right. Oh man tha is a relic.

This ashtray in the window of the barber shop....

Around the corner is this little market.

To the side of the market is this mural and an open area with tables & chairs for public events.

A floor I really liked.

Hotel Hadley. Looks like it was quite something back in the day.

I liked this cute little shop squeezed into the alleyway.

Well you sure don't see pay-phones around anymore these days. Siler City being the arty town that it is, saved the structure but removed the phone. It's a nice nostalgic thing to see even though you can't actually use it to make phone calls.

Pawn Shop.

Old & vacant.

Boy that's an old timey reference. To Clark Gable I mean.

Funny.

I have no idea what this place is.

Got a tea at the coffee shop and rested for a while in the NC Art Incubator.

I joined this lady for a beverage. She didn't seem to mind. But seriously, this piece of art was created by Roger Person, the artist whose art gallery is across the street from this coffee shop. It's called Person to Person Art.

Ha! So mellow 'round these parts.

This handwritten sign is the only sign identifying this building.

No sign on the building, besides the handwritten one on the side.

Chatham Lofts.

Even came across an interesting looking bug on the window.

Sculpture outside of the Art Incubator.

I love the old-fashioned recessed entryways into businesses.

Murals...

I dig this giant bunny mural.

I wish Wingnut Gallery was open when I came upon it. Such cool looking stuff inside.

Peeked inside Wingnut Gallery. Cools stuff in there.

You've been warned.

Cool floor!

One of the buildings on Chatham St. is getting quite the makeover. The interior anyway.

I like interesting looking floors.

Floors and entrways...

On my way back to the car I walked by the Artisan Hub and snapped a picture of their cute door.

The functional tire art.

Newspaper vending machines already feel like they are a blast from the past.

Bye for now Siler City.... It's been really fun visiting!
